As a young apprentice sparks back in the 70 and as a young sparks in the 80s, I had a few tuts from suits as I sat down next to them, I never wore overalls back them so was covered in dust and dirt.
Best one was paying extra for 1st Home to Rayleigh as the trains were packed and I been celebrating after my daughter was born in 83, I was slightly pissed and covered in dust carrying a bag of McDonalds and a couple of lagers.
Suit in the 1st Class wasn't impressed when I got on and even less so when I opened a can.
He got off the carriage found an inspector or platform person and asked them to check my ticket.
He was gutted I never said and word and promptly fell alseep !

Some of the Chinese women I've met have been annoyingly overpolite, others have been simply rude, and yet others have been in the politeness Goldilocks zone.
China is a vast country, and I suspect where in China someone comes from is key.
Haven't known enough to build up a politeness map of the country, though.
